“As you have probably deduced , there were three Clement brothers, Joseph , 1776 – 1823, Abraham, 1779 – 1826, and William Clement ( my three times great grandfather, 1780 – 1865 ) They were three of the six, possibly seven, children born to Abraham Clement 1740 – 1825 , and Elizabeth Jenn 1733 – 1810 , who were married at Newton St Petrock, 11 April 1770 .

Joseph married Mary Ann Squance ;
Abraham married Jane , possible maiden name being Tucker,
William Clement married Jane Squance , 1784 – 1822 sister of Mary Ann .

When Joseph Clement and Jane ( Squance ) died , Mary Ann ( Squance ) Clement then married her widowed brother in law William Clement. I refer to this as the ` double Squance Clement marriage ` .

In 1832 William Clement , Mary Ann Squance Clement ( not sure if they were then married or married in Canada ) left Devonshire , bound for Ontario , Canada. In their party were William Clement , 1780 – 1865, Mary Ann Clement , 1807 – 1896, Charles Clement , 1812 – 1884 , William Clement , 1814 – 1894 , James Clement , 1816 – 1906, Thomas Clement , 1818 – 1888, Ann Clement , 1821 – 1891 . Their daughter Frances Clement Withycombe 1808 – 1890 remained in Buckland Brewer .

Mary Ann Squance Clement 1779 – 1826 and children , Mary Clement Lemon, 1807 – 1903, Susannah Clement , 1816 – 1886 , Abraham Clement , 1820 – 1856 . Son Joseph 1810 – 1883 , and his sister Sarah 1812 – ???,remained in England . Mary Clement Lemon came to Canada with her husband William and young children.

John Clement 1804 – 1893 , son of Abraham 1779 and Jane Clement , and his brother William 1822 – ???? , may also have come to Canada, John`s many siblings stayed in England .

Thus three branches of the Clement family came to Canada , in 1832, covering three generations, and settled in Beverly Township , Wentworth county , Ontario where they farmed . “
